Dreaming of attending a FIFA World Cup match with kids? Our family recently experienced our very first FIFA World Cup 2026 game, watching Morocco vs Canada at NRG Stadium in Houston, and it was truly unforgettable.

Before going, I had so many questions. How do you buy tickets? Is it safe for kids? What should you pack? How early should you arrive? Is parking worth it?
Now that we’ve experienced it ourselves, I’m sharing everything I wish I had known before attending my first FIFA World Cup to help make your family’s match day stress-free and unforgettable.
Buying FIFA World Cup Tickets
The first challenge was finding tickets.
After comparing different options, these were the three websites I used.
FIFA Official Website
Buying directly through FIFA is the safest option.
However, I personally found the website a little confusing. It required verification codes that expired quickly, and it wasn’t very easy to browse different seating options or compare prices.
If you’re lucky enough to buy during FIFA’s official sales, this is a great choice.
Gametime
I purchased two of our tickets through Gametime.
Things I liked:
- Interactive seating map
- Easy price filters
- Clear view of each seat before purchasing
- Prices constantly updated
One thing I noticed is that resale prices changed daily. Sometimes prices dropped a few days before the match, while the day before they increased significantly.
The only stressful part was waiting for my ticket transfer. I purchased my tickets around 5 PM but didn’t receive the transfer until about 6 AM the next morning. Since it was my first time using the platform, I was definitely nervous but everything worked perfectly in the end.
SeatGeek
We also purchased one ticket through SeatGeek.
My experience was excellent because my seller transferred the ticket almost immediately after purchase.
Once your tickets are transferred, FIFA will send you an activation link. Make sure to activate it within 72 hours, or the link may expire.
What to Wear
Comfort is everything.
Since you’ll be walking quite a bit, I recommend:
- Comfortable sneakers
- Your favorite team jersey
- Light, breathable clothing
- Sunscreen if you’re walking outside
I actually found some great soccer-themed shirts at Old Navy for both adults and kids.
What to Pack for a FIFA World Cup Match
Always check your stadium’s bag policy before arriving.
For our match, we brought:
- Clear stadium bag
- Phone
- Portable power bank
- Charging cable
- Hand sanitizer
- Gum
- Wallet
- One unopened bottle of water per person
- Tickets already downloaded on our phones
Having everything organized made security very fast.
Arriving at the Stadium
Our match started at noon, and the stadium opened three hours before kickoff.
Since we drove from Austin, we left early to avoid traffic.
Although thousands of fans arrived at the same time, I was surprised by how organized security was. We moved through the lines much faster than I expected.
Arriving early also gave us plenty of time to:
- Explore the stadium
- Take family photos
- Buy food
- Watch warm-ups
- Enjoy the incredible atmosphere
Parking Tips
If you’re attending with children, I highly recommend official stadium parking.
Yes, it’s more expensive.
But after the match ended, thousands of people walked out together in the Texas heat.
Being parked close to the stadium saved us a long walk and made leaving much easier.
For our family, it was definitely worth it.
Inside the FIFA World Cup Stadium
Walking into the stadium for the first time gave me goosebumps.
Seeing thousands of fans wearing jerseys from all over the world was incredible.
The opening ceremony, giant national flags, music, and excitement created an unforgettable atmosphere.
Watching Morocco play Canada alongside my son made the experience even more meaningful.
Food Inside the Stadium
You’ll find plenty of food options.
Some of the snacks available included:
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
- Chips
- Soft drinks
- Water
- Other stadium snacks
One tip I highly recommend:
If you plan on buying food, try going before halftime.
Halftime creates much longer concession lines because so many fans leave their seats at once.
Is the FIFA World Cup Safe for Kids?
This was probably my biggest concern.
Before attending, I had read stories online about overcrowding and stadium chaos.
Thankfully, our experience was the complete opposite.
Security was everywhere.
Staff members were friendly and helpful.
Fans were respectful.
Everything felt organized from entering the stadium until we left.
As a mom, I honestly felt comfortable bringing my child, and I would absolutely attend another FIFA World Cup match with him.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Going
Here are my biggest tips:
✔ Buy tickets from trusted sellers.
✔ Activate your FIFA ticket transfer immediately.
✔ Download your tickets before leaving home.
✔ Wear comfortable walking shoes.
✔ Bring a portable charger.
✔ Arrive early if you want photos and time to explore.
✔ Purchase nearby parking if you’re traveling with kids.
✔ Buy snacks before halftime.
✔ Keep your phone fully charged.
✔ Take lots of photos, you’ll never forget the experience!
