After seeing seafood boil restaurants everywhere, I decided to create my own version at home using fresh seafood from H-E-B. Instead of loading it with sausage and heavy sauces, I kept this recipe focused on what we love most: lobster, crab, shrimp, mussels, clams, corn, and potatoes cooked in a flavorful citrus and Cajun-spiced broth.

The result was a seafood boil that tasted just as good as restaurant takeout, but fresher, lighter, and much more budget-friendly.

Ingredients

Seafood

  • 2 pounds jumbo shrimp
  • 2 whole lobsters
  • Crab legs or crab claws
  • Fresh mussels
  • Fresh clams

Vegetables

  • Mini potatoes
  • Corn on the cob, cut into pieces

For the Seafood Boil Broth

  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • Juice of 1–2 lemons
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Seafood boil seasoning

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 1 stick butter
  • Fresh garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley
  • Juice of ½ lemon

How to Make Seafood Boil

Fill a large stockpot with water and add the orange juice, lemon juice, seasonings, and seafood boil mix. Bring everything to a boil and allow the flavors to infuse the water.

Start by adding the potatoes since they take the longest to cook. Once they begin to soften, add the lobster and corn.

Next, add the crab legs or crab claws and continue cooking until heated through.

Add the clams and mussels, cooking until they open. Finally, add the shrimp and cook just until pink.

Transfer everything to a large serving platter while you prepare the garlic butter sauce.

Garlic Butter Sauce

Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the garlic, parsley, and lemon juice. Simmer for a few minutes until fragrant.

Drizzle some of the seafood cooking broth over the platter, then pour the garlic butter sauce over the seafood, potatoes, and corn.

What to Serve with Seafood Boil

We served ours with:

  • Fresh homemade lemonade
  • Warm baguette with garlic butter
  • Watermelon slices

The combination was perfect for a hot Texas summer day.

Freezing Leftovers

One thing I love about this recipe is how well it freezes.

Place cooled seafood, potatoes, and corn into freezer-safe bags with a little of the cooking liquid. When you’re ready for another seafood boil night, place everything in a baking dish, add a splash of water, cover tightly, and bake until heated through.

The steam keeps everything juicy and flavorful, making leftovers taste almost as good as the day you made them.
